My Priorities
So some friends and I were playing a game in the car where we read questions from a book and answer them. ugg bailey bow for sale Two of the more interesting questions and my answers follow. It’s interesting how when you’re actively searching for the answer to a tough question you can find clues in the weirdest places.
Q: If you had one wish what would you wish for?
A: Wisdom
Q: If you could be master one type of artistic expression, chaussures asics which would it be?
A: Speaking, followed shortly by writing
——
So first, I apparently have 3 things I need to start concentrating on: building wisdom, speaking, and writing. air jordan 30
Now my current activities don’t actually reflect these priorities at all. asics shoes That’s not good. asics cheap I spend all my time at work and dancing, air jordan 13 which don’t necessarily contribute to either of these goals. In order:
* Wisdom – Well, aside from living, the only way I know to increase wisdom is to listen to people that are wiser than I, both in person and in writing. Nike Air Max Cheap To that end, I’m starting to keep default.BooksToRead, adidas homme which are a list of all the books I should read, ugg classic short boots ‘’please, if you’re reading this post, add to this list the books that you think I should read.’’ I’m going to make reading a priority.
* Speaking – You learn to speak by speaking, so I’ll be submitting some abstracts for presentations this coming year, was talking w/ Zak Tamsen about a “Using .Net on Agile Projects” session. I need to find other places to talk.
* Writing – So that’s what this blog is all about, right? My writing needs a lot of work before I could, classic short womens ugg boots say, write a book,
Why Comes Before How
Something I learned from my sister this weekend.
Like any good older brother, I try to share the things I learn in life with my
younger siblings : Javi (13) and Ceci (16). nike air jordan Sometimes I’m more successful than
others. new balance trainers Sharing something like sushi for example w/ Ceci, or a really good movie
– Easy. cheap ugg boots uk But teaching Javi how to program (even though he’s interested) or Ceci
how to make a difference – Hard.
Why is that? We are obviously in different places in life, but surely we can
bridge that gap somehow?
Thinking about that today as I come back from a visit
to El Paso, it occurs to me that much of what I’m interested in today is HOW.
How to be a better leader, how to be a more effective communicator,
how to teach something to my brother, a client, etc. air jordan cdp Answering these how questions
is very important to me and I spend a lot of time working and trying things out to
that end. air jordan future achat If you asked me why I wanted to answer any of these questions or how
it relates to my life in the short or long term, I’d be able to tell you right away.
But when I try to get Javi or Ceci interested in a HOW they are often still
missing the why. nike kyrie It’s REALLY hard to learn how to program. new balance 1400 You need to have a good
reason to do it. nike womens And you need to see that reason again and again in the short term.
So instead of trying to teach Javi how to program, or test first (yeah I was trying
to teach him test first…), I’m encouraging him to try designing his own Warcraft 3
levels. Air Jordan 3 He seems to like that and we’ll see where it goes
As for Ceci, she could have cared less about what I had to say before, but she’s
suddenly interested in gay/straight relations at school.
